Your motivational essay

As part of your application, we’ve asked you to submit a 1000-word motivational essay on the following topic: “Speaking a foreign language can transform your life for the better.” At Babbel, we believe that languages open up new horizons and help us cross bridges to other cultures and people. Language can be transformational not only for you but for others who you might meet as a result. We would like to hear from you, and about your own experiences with language as a catalyst for positive change. In no less than 1000 words please elaborate how speaking a foreign language can transform your life for the better. For example, you might be able to access new opportunities abroad and take a job in a country where the locals are unlikely to speak your native tongue.

The selection process

All applications will be reviewed and evaluated by an assessment committee set up for this purpose. The committee will review all complete application packages based on predetermined criteria, including grade point average, application motivation, recommendation letter and ambassadorial potential. Our committee experts will finally decide who should be awarded the Babbel Scholarship. Winners will be notified in writing on Monday, December 7th, 2020.

Languages are the gateway to opportunity, although Babbel doesn’t offer or help to find study abroad placements. The Babbel Scholarship prize money of £2000 may help study abroad students by funding a move overseas to continue their studies in foreign languages and in other industries where languages are required.

The Babbel Scholarship prize money, while not a university grant, can be used however the winner sees fit. The winner may wish to put the award towards a university course or master’s degree.

Unfortunately, this scholarship exists to assist UK students who are currently studying and pursuing a love of languages. You will need to provide a letter of recommendation from a tutor plus proof of enrolment to apply.
